Hello, I’m Helen, the director of SEO at Car & Classic, and this week we’ll examine how SEOs, as well as developers, could collaborate better. Let me spend some time describing why SEOs and developers have to collaborate better, although it’s evident in reality. Developers have the chance to improve our lives more enjoyable by implementing a quick improvement to speed up loading or make our lives much worse when they accidentally roll out a code that eliminates indexing the site.

In reality, we can aid developers since we can provide them with data regarding accessibility and usability. It’s essential to work together. Many people say that to work with your developer; you must induce them with doughnuts. That’s slightly insulting and expensive since who has that amount of doughnut money lying around?

In reality, we have to determine ways to build an effective working relationship with developers that does not rely only on baked products. What can we do to achieve that?

Learn about how processes work

First, we must begin by understanding their process since if we’re soliciting them to perform tasks for us; we’ll need to be sure that we’re communicating in a way that’s incorporated with their process.

It is important to know how to describe your needs in a manner that allows you to prioritize and organize your tasks. So, what exactly are they currently doing? Are they using a ticketing program that has all their requirements and allows for monitoring during the process? Do they have another method to track the work they’re performing? Make sure you’re providing your specifications and requests in a format that is suitable for them.

There’s no need to send your email soliciting them to correct something that doesn’t make it into their task. So what else do I have to do? You should look back at how you’ve briefed your team in the past; they’ve not exactly worked out. Perhaps there were mistakes, or there was a miscommunication or a communication issue. Look through the tickets you’ve previously submitted and see if there were reasons that led to them being rejected or misinterpreted.

What should you do to make things clearer when you’re preparing work for your developer team? Maybe you could look into other teams and what they do when providing work to developers. You might be able to see how they structure their ticketing, or if they have an etymological term they use to communicate information to the developers more effectively. However, you should learn from how others are doing better and places where you’ve failed to do this. Then hope you can find an efficient method to help your developers know what you’d like them to do.

Take a look at the work schedule. So, do they commit to work for two weeks ahead of time? Do they agree to complete a month of work before getting moving? Do they have an unclear combination of waterfall and agile, which means no one is aware of their work; however, it must be done now? No matter how your developers do their work scheduled for them, ensure you know it since the timing will be crucial.

If you’re looking to get something done and you’re looking to get it completed quickly, You’re likely to need to determine if it can be prioritized so that it can be completed in this sprint or the next, as an example. It is important to know what types of time frames they’re working with. How long is your ticket expected to require? If you’ve asked them to perform something extremely complicated on their website, testing, resources, and testing will require more time to implement it.

Also, make sure you’ve got this planned for your work timetable. What do you do if everything goes off on your website and you must fix it right now? If the whole website is de-indexed in some way. Is it a good idea to create a ticket and wait two weeks before the next sprint to be repaired? This doesn’t seem like the best idea. What can you do to escalate when you’ve identified some grave, important issues you’ve discovered?

Do you need to place an order into an alternative work stream? Do you need to speak to someone specific about the issue? Do you simply have to be in the office yelling for a while until someone listens to you? How can you escalate your ticket within your company or your client?

Learn from colleagues in SEO

Then, take a look at some instructional materials. What are the most common issues that developers face when being questioned by SEOs to carry out work?

Do you have issues with pagination that you’re asking them to address, or are they using links that are not SEO-friendly? Could you educate them on this kind of thing so they’re prepared to approach things from an SEO viewpoint instead of waiting to hear, “You did that wrong”? Perhaps you can create a collection of these kinds of documents. In reality, why wouldn’t you record this type of thing down?

If you ever tell anyone how you can implement pagination in a manner that is SEO friendly, Write it down and provide the details of what you asked them to accomplish and how it was done to reference it again as well as other team members could refer to it. Everyone on the SEO team agrees and ensures they’re recommending the same method to work shortly. If you plan to teach your team’s developers, you’ll find them already busy.

They’re busy. They may not have an hour or two for you to learn how websites are indexed through search engine crawlers. Do you have a different method to educate your employees? Take a look at which methods they use to train one another effectively. Do they transmit videos? Do they take notes down? Have they got a quick 15-minute distillation of details?

What is their method of training one another? What are they doing to improve their skills? Check if you could conduct your training in the same manner.
